![]() Tracking showed it going through the sort facility in NY and then nothing. The first one was a little better than the one I just bought. I've actually found and bought the correct WW2 Navy Marlin Spike knife. ![]() How hard is it going to be to find a correct decent WW2 Nave Marlin Spike Knife by Camillus? How deep do my pockets need to be? Bill Which one is correct? The markings on Silvey's example seems to be correct for the period. Then I checked Silvey's Pocket Knives / Military and found a different example on page 107. ![]() I looked in Cole's book 3 and found one on page 130. It is for an elderly friend who served in the Navy during the war and was issued one. I need to find a decent WW2 Navy Marlin Spike Knife by Camillus. By the way - John still has the same M1 Carbine in the WW2 picture. Only everyone who comes to the house gets to look at it and hear the story." It just make me feel great to know he likes it so much. His wife told me "he's not very proud of the MK2 I gave him. It starts with the research to determine the correct knife for the time period and then the challenge of finding one. Its all me wanting to get him the knives. The only thing he has done was ask if I had ever seen either of the knives he carried in the war. I am sure he would like whatever I get him and be very appreciative. I had already determined that the knife listed in Cole III on page 130 was post WW2. They may be post war, but like Gary said, on the post WWII ones you can't tell if it's Navy issue, or a commercial offering. Anyway, there are three knives like the one on the post on eBay right now items no. Did you see this post?ĭoes it have to be WWII issue? Unless your friend is a collector, he probably wouldn't care if it looks the same (as a collector, I know you probably do). Mark 2 knife and BOYT -43- stamped U.S.N. Wow, that is definitely a neat story and a great thing you are trying to do. I gave him both scabbards - the correct leather scabbard and the MK2 plastic. I gave them to him one Sunday after services. It took several months but I finally scored a first generation Camillus Navy Mark 2. Of course that would not be the correct scabbard for the knife but then again why would he be issued a knife that should have been sent back? Anyway I'm very found of this gentleman and his entire family. He also said his knife was in the "hard plastic gray" scabbard. He said he had looked at gun shows for years but never found the correct knife. I pulled out my copy of Cole's III and showed him the first version of the Camillus Mark 2 for the Navy. He couldn't remember the maker but said it had a screw in the butt. While he is looking at some of my stuff he starts telling me about the Mark 2 he was issued in the war. He knew I collect USMC military edged weapons. He and his family were over at my house for a cookout. John (the man I want the knife for) was in the Navy from 1944 - 1946. OK so I'll tell you the rest of the story. It's the least any of us can do to pay homage to these guys. I'd love to be part of an effort to get a knife back into the hands of a veteran that used one during the war. In all seriousness, if I come across one in my neck-o-the-woods I'll drop you a line.
